HRH Princess Astrid of Belgium led the Belgian economic mission to Beijing and Shanghai (November 2019). One of the highlights was the Sino-Belgian Forum on meat technology improvements.

Meat professionals gather in Beijing

The Forum focused on technical improvements in the meat industry: what improvements can help you meet today’s and tomorrow’s challenges? Special attention was paid to Belgium’s approach of ASF, followed by a broader look on biosecurity in general and the Biocheck application (developed by the Ghent University) in particular.

The Sino-Belgian Forum was co-hosted by China Meat Association and the Belgian Meat Federation. Among the speakers were Jean-François Heymans, Chief Veterinary Officer of Belgium’s Federal Agency for the Safety of the Food Chain, and Prof. Dr. Jeroen Dewulf, renowned biosecurity expert of the Ghent University.

Afterwards, meat professionals had the opportunity to further discuss topics and opportunities during various B2B meetings.

A delegation of more than 600 people—politicians, entrepreneurs, and representatives of sector organizations, universities and technology centers—took part in Belgium’s largest economic mission ever.
